Fighting food waste, feeding communities

UKHarvest is a leading food waste charity on a mission to reduce food waste and increase food security. Through its four-pillar approach – food rescue, education, engagement, and innovation – the organisation brings people together to reduce waste, promote healthy eating, and eat well for less.

Goodman has proudly supported UKHarvest as Founding Partner since its launch in 2017, helping to bring the pioneering OzHarvest model to the UK. Since then, UKHarvest has made a powerful impact across the country by:

• Delivering over 8.8 million meals to communities in need
• Rescuing more than 3,706 tonnes of surplus food
• Educating over 162,065 people through practical, community-focused programmes and online educational delivery

What we do

The Goodman Foundation is committed to helping people reach their full potential by supporting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities in the places where we operate.

In partnership with UKHarvest, our funding supports the charity’s work to rescue and redistribute surplus food from across the supply chain – helping to ensure good food never goes to waste. In 24/25 this enabled 556 tonnes of food to be rescued and redistributed to frontline charities, school-based initiatives and Community Food Hubs across the UK. Different from food banks, which operate on a referral basis, these hubs provide people with access to affordable food, opportunities to learn low-cost cooking skills, and benefit from support on a range of social issues. Together, we’re helping to reduce food waste, combat food insecurity, and support vulnerable individuals to live well, age well, and stay connected. 

Empowering future generations

UKHarvest’s NourishEd programme is at the heart of its mission to reduce food waste and improve nutrition across the UK. 

From hands-on cookery classes and food waste workshops to nutrition-focused talks, NourishEd empowers individuals and families with the knowledge and practical skills they need to eat well for less. The team has expanded its reach by offering new courses, participating in a range of events across the South of England and growing its work through the Nourish Hub – its vibrant community hub and kitchen in West London.

Growing together

Expanding operations

The pandemic drove a surge in demand for UKHarvest’s services - with surplus food from closed hospitality venues and rising need among vulnerable communities.

To help meet this demand, the Foundation supported UKHarvest’s move into a larger 200 sqm facility. Equipped with a walk-in chiller and freezer, the site significantly increased storage capacity and enabled wider food distribution across the region. At its peak, this included delivering up to 75,000 meals a week.

Nourish Hub

In more recent years, the Foundation has also supported the Nourish Hub in Shepherd’s Bush - a flagship community kitchen and education space delivered in partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

Opened in 2022 by UKHarvest’s patron, Her Majesty The Queen (formerly HRH The Duchess of Cornwall), the hub offers a vegan and vegetarian menu, with meals starting at £3, and the option to donate more. The meal provision is offered alongside cooking classes and access to local support services. It’s designed to reduce waste, tackle food insecurity, and build stronger social connections.

Funded by £2.3 million from the Council and £1.1 million from the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund, the hub forms part of the borough’s wider Nourish Project to help end food poverty and address the climate crisis.

During the 24/25 financial year, the Nourish Hub has: 

• Served close to 35,000 nutritious meals to feed and support residents
• Engaged over 5,000 people in education programmes, working with 135 volunteers
• Signposted 1,000 residents to external support agencies.
