Supporting biodiversity

An hour from Greater London, Bedford Commercial Park is supporting local environmental efforts as it re-defines how green a logistics park can be.

Bedford Commercial Park

Goodman’s vision for Bedford Commercial Park was to create a mixed-use development that would support local employment and provide an attractive environment for businesses and their employees to enjoy. However it was vital for the landscape design to promote ecological diversity and increase opportunities for wildlife to thrive.

Sustainability extends to the buildings' surroundings, with a network of landscaped ponds, footpaths and extensive woodland planting to support the area’s biodiversity.

With the second phase of development now complete, the Park includes a network of landscaped ponds at its heart designed to protect natural habitats.

Home to the future canal link between Bedford and Milton Keynes, this is complemented by a community orchard, extensive woodland planting and a series of pedestrian footpaths and cycle routes that link the Park with its natural surroundings.

Additional biodiversity features include:

  • Bird and bat boxes
  • Species-rich grassland
  • A swale corridor for Great Crested Newts
  • Native hedgerows to support local wildlife

Once complete, Bedford Commercial Park will offer:

  • Four acres of ponds creating new landscaped areas
  • 6.7 acres of new and existing woodland

Working with local charitable trust, the Forest of Marston Vale, Goodman has committed to increasing tree canopy cover in the local area by 30% and has already planted 954 trees on site.
