Goodman secures planning permission for two units at Northampton Commercial Park

Tuesday, 17 March 2015

Global integrated property group, Goodman, has secured planning permission for two new distribution units totalling 465,500 sq ft at Northampton Commercial Park, a prime logistics location immediately adjacent to junction 15 of the M1 motorway.

Goodman has committed to develop the distribution units of 303,824 and 161,709 sq ft respectively, on a speculative basis and construction will start on site in April. Both units are due to complete in November.

The development of the two units at Northampton Commercial Park represents a significant investment for the local area and will stimulate local job creation. Once complete, the units will have the capacity to accommodate up to 500 employees.

Nigel Dolan, Development Director, Goodman UK Logistics, said: “We’re delighted to have received planning permission for these two units, which will be built on a prime site within close proximity to the M1.

“There is a distinct lack of Grade A logistics space in the Northampton area, and indeed the wider East Midlands region. These two units will bring much needed distribution space with strong sustainability credentials to the market, and we anticipate strong demand for them.

“Furthermore, the development of these two units is great news for the region, as it will give local companies the opportunity to expand, while also attracting inward investment from businesses across the UK.

“Goodman has a proven track record of managing the delivery of prime developments and we look forward to seeing the units at Northampton Commercial Park through to their successful completion this autumn.”

Businesses currently located in the area include John Lewis, Travis Perkins and Carlsberg. Development on the 500 acre commercial park began in the early 2000s, with the initial phase included a distribution park, offices, hotels and new homes.

The development at Northampton Commercial Park follows Goodman’s recent completion of a 165,000 sq ft development at nearby Hinckley Commercial Park, which is now fully let to DPD/Geopost.

Goodman has 17 strategically-located sites across the UK, capable of delivering over 19 million sq ft of bespoke development. These sites offer exceptional access to key transport hubs, including motorway interchanges, ports and airports.

Jones Long LaSalle and Lambert Smith Hampton have been appointed as leasing agents for the two units at Northampton Commercial Park.
