Goodman announces new warehouse letting to e-retailer Wiggle at Citadel Logistics Centre

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

Global integrated property group, Goodman, has let a 323,000 sq ft warehouse to e-retailer, Wiggle at Citadel Logistics Centre in Wolverhampton.

Wiggle, the world’s leading online retailer of running, swimming and cycling products is moving into the centrally located, state-of-the-art logistics facility at Citadel in order to consolidate its existing operations and facilitate the ongoing expansion of its business. This follows two years of record breaking sales and revenue growth, serving more than one million customers in over 70 countries. The move is expected to create a significant number of new jobs in the region.

Charles Crossland, Managing Director of Goodman UK Logistics, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Wiggle to Citadel, which demonstrates Goodman’s ability to respond quickly to the needs of our customers. Good quality sites like Citadel are able to boost the local economy by attracting major businesses like Wiggle and in turn creating new employment opportunities.

“This deal also highlights the demand for quality logistics space in this part of the UK, with strong customer take-up reflecting the diminishing supply of prime, well located facilities, such as Citadel.”

Nicholas Pink, Operations & Programme Director of Wiggle, said. “We are delighted to confirm our move to such a prestigious development. The move demonstrates Wiggle’s continuous growth and ambition. We believe the location and space of the new warehouse will provide Wiggle with a competitive advantage as we scale up our operations in the UK and overseas. “

Goodman is separately looking to build on an existing partnership it has with Wiggle in its UK Business Parks operations. Earlier this year, it teamed up with the e-retailer to offer bike services and repairs on site at Goodman business parks across the UK. The partnership enabled Wiggle, as an online only retailer, to provide a face-to-face bike service to its growing online customer base.

Citadel is situated two miles from Junction 10 of the M6 and six miles from Junction 1 of the M5. The location provides excellent dual carriageway access to the national and international markets through its road, rail and air links. Central to the UK’s motorway network, companies in the area benefit from easy access to their supply chain and clients nationwide.

Goodman has invested £130 million into its 1,000 acre UK land bank to ensure that outline planning and infrastructure are in place and the sites are ready for construction. This unique offering dramatically reduces the time it takes to build fully operational logistics centres, a key concern for logistics customers. Goodman has 14 strategically-located sites across the UK market capable of delivering over 19 million sq ft of bespoke development. These sites offer exceptional access to key transport hubs, including motorway interchanges and airports.

Knight Frank, JLL and Bulleys are agents on Citadel. Tony Lewis Surveyors acted on behalf of Wiggle.
