Goodman and Shepherd Group form partnership to deliver 5 million sq ft freight interchange

Tuesday, 11 June 2013

Global integrated property group, Goodman and Shepherd Group have entered into a partnership to develop a new strategic rail freight interchange incorporating approximately five million sq ft of manufacturing and distribution space in Etwall, Derbyshire.

The partnership will work with the site’s owner, Etwall Land Limited and, subject to planning, deliver a scheme that will give a major economic boost to the area, with the potential to provide up to 6,000 new jobs.  On completion, the rail freight interchange’s strategic location between the M1 and the M6, and being adjacent to the A50 and A38 and Toyota’s UK manufacturing plant, will enable the region’s businesses to efficiently and sustainably produce and deliver goods to the wider UK and international market.

Charles Crossland, Managing Director, Goodman UK Logistics said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for Goodman and Shepherd Group to create a major new rail connected distribution site in a prime location. Goodman has proven experience globally in developing this type of project which offers enormous potential for businesses looking to benefit from a modern industrial precinct with excellent location and transport links.”

“From an economic viewpoint, the new strategic rail freight hub will act as a stimulus to attract further investment into the area and enhance the region’s reputation as a key business location."

Mark Perkins, Chief Executive, Shepherd Group Built Environment said:

“This is a wonderful opportunity to transform sustainable transport links for the region to benefit existing businesses while also encouraging inward investment and the creation of jobs for the local community.”

“Shepherd Group has a strong in-house capability for delivering strategic development projects while acting sensitively and responsibly towards the environments in which it operates. We will seek to play a positive and beneficial role in delivering this exciting regeneration project and look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure the very best outcome for all concerned.“

A public consultation process in respect of the project will commence immediately.
