DPD selects Goodman to develop major UK parcel hub

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

The  UK’s  fastest  growing  parcel  carrier,  DPD,  has  selected  global  integrated property group Goodman to develop a 330,000 sq ft state of the art parcel hub at Hinckley Commercial Park in the East Midlands. Once developed, the hub will service the growing need for efficient parcel delivery associated with the rise of online shopping in the UK. Since the start of the recession in 2009, DPD has increased its sales by more than 50% and is expanding in order to meet the growing demand from the home delivery sector.

Goodman, which owns Hinckley Commercial Park, will develop the property on behalf of DPD,  subject  to  the  necessary  detailed  planning  consent.  If  planning  permission  is granted, the hub will create up to 1,000 new, permanent jobs in the local area, providing a significant employment boost. The associated investment is estimated to be approximately £100 million and reflects DPD’s long term commitment to the region.

Charles Crossland, Managing Director, Goodman UK Logistics said: “DPD is one of the world’s  largest  parcel  delivery  specialists,  and  its  decision  to  locate  at  Hinckley Commercial Park is testament to the quality of the site, transport connectivity and the available local workforce. DPD’s planned investment into this parcel hub will be considerable, and greatly benefit the local community and wider region.”

Dwain McDonald, DPD CEO, said; “It is very exciting to be able to announce our plans for the  East  Midland  hub  today.    This  is  fantastic  news  for  DPD,  the  region  and  our customers.  The Hinckley site provides us with the optimum location in terms of motorway links for the whole of the UK and the new hub will give us the capacity, scale and flexibility to meet the future demands of our rapidly growing customer base.”

Councillor Stuart Bray, the Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, said: "We welcome the jobs being brought to the area by Goodman and anticipate these being the first of many hundreds to come to the borough as a result of the council's regeneration programme."

"We have been working over the last few months with Goodman and the team from Geopost to facilitate this state-of-the-art facility on land allocated for new employment at Sketchley Brook. This will significantly contribute to the council’s regeneration plans for securing over £1bn investment in economic growth in the area over the next 10 to 15 years, creating jobs for local people. We look forward to future partnership working with Geopost  to  promote  apprenticeship  and  secure  the  best  possible  opportunities  for residents of the borough".

Goodman has invested £105 million into its 800 acre UK land bank to ensure that outline planning and infrastructure are in place and its sites are ready for construction. This unique offering dramatically reduces the time it takes to build fully operational logistics centres, a key concern for logistics customers.

Goodman has 14 strategically located sites across the UK market capable of delivering over 14 million sq ft of logistics space. Four of its UK sites can deliver facilities of over one million sq ft, and eight are capable of delivering over 500,000 sq ft of logistics space.
